Introduce yourselves and your kids. How did you meet?

MyLin: Hi I’m MyLin (aka Mommy) and I’m 33 years old. I am an artist and a stay-at-home mom. I gave birth to our eldest, Kameron, the month after I graduated from Hampton University in June of 2008.

Lindsay: I'm Lindsay (Momma).  I'm 31 years old. I am an interior designer and co-own a design company based in Huntington Beach, CA. I welcomed Lennox to our family last October.

MyLin: We met early 2010 in bible study and became friends. We didn’t start exclusively dating until February 2013, and then we were married at midnight on January 1, 2015.

Can you tell us more about your midnight wedding?

MyLin: Absolutely. We had a small & intimate  New Year’s Eve wedding at our home. We had just moved and then on top of that was saving up for a second car. So, we did it small and cute. The wedding reception came first, started at 9. We had the most delicious signature cocktail “The Midnight Hour” that Lindsay’s sister created. We were dressed in black and gold sequin. And then we stepped away at 11 to get ready for the ceremony which started at 11:40. We were pronounced married and kissed right at midnight. Did the countdown and everything. We kissed, and all the couples present kissed and we popped champagne and it was just absolutely amazing. We had our first dance on our kitchen floor. It was all we needed. We were just ready to start our life together.

Congrats on your gorgeous baby boy! Did you always want kids together or were there a lot of discussions?

MyLin: Thank you so much! Once we were married I knew, yes, I wanted 2-3 more kids lol.

Lindsay: After we got married, I was definitely having a longing to have a baby together.  We knew we wanted a larger family and MyLin is an amazing caregiver.  It was my best decision to have a child with her.

Can you share your pregnancy journey with us?

Lindsay: Whew!  It was a long one.  Back in Spring 2017, we started with a known donor and on our first try got pregnant.  We miscarried at 8 weeks and it hit us and the donor pretty hard.  We had to start from scratch.  We tried our best to find a known donor, went through some weird options that never took before seeing a specialist and learning that I had PCOS and my ovulation was coming through late.  Once we got an understanding of my body and its characteristics, the stars aligned when we finally solidified a family friend to become the donor of our dreams.  We inseminated naturally and it took on the second cycle.  My entire pregnancy was exhausting and simple until my 36th week when I got pregnancy cholestasis.  Due to my heightened hormone levels, I was encouraged to induce early and bring him into the world.  Lennox Eli was born on October 22nd at 38 weeks exactly and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Do you have any favorite books or toys that celebrate queer parenthood?

MyLin: We were very excited to find Nyesha & Samantha Davis-Williams’ book, “Umi & Uma: The Story of Two Mommies and a Baby”. It was the first time we saw two black queer women represented as the moms in a children’s book. The story is about Nyesha & Sam’s journey to becoming moms to their sweet Abigail.

I look forward to finding another book similar with a son. I’ve come across a couple, but the moms aren’t black. We just want to be able to read to him a story of a family that looks like our own.

And finally, where can we find you?
