Our Favorite Board Games Right Now

As you may already know, we’re huge fans of board games over here. Right around the time my daughter hit 2.5 we started playing simple games regularly and we’ve consistently added to our collection over the last year which has been really fun for us all! Here are a few of our newer games that we’ve been enjoying this year.

Best Board Games For Kids

Hi-Ho! Cherry-O - Every player has their own fruit tree and they need to pick all their fruit first to win in this classic game. It’s super simple and fast-moving which makes it perfect for younger kids but still delivers enough replay value to keep adults entertained. This is one of our go-tos for the awkward time in between dinner and bath when you don’t want your kid to start a long activity but you have some time to kill.

Dragon's Breath - We love this game which was recommended by Dad Suggests (his website is an amazing resource for book and game recs!). The goal is to get as many gems as possible from the precariously stacked column of ice. My three year-old enjoys just playing with gems just as much as she does playing the actual game. After playing this almost every night for two weeks we ended up buying it for friends as well!

Pete The Cat and The Missing Cupcakes - This is a new game my in-laws added to their game collection and I was surprised at how much my daughter and all the adults loved playing it. The goal of this game is to help Pete and his friends get all the cupcakes back from the grumpy toad. There’s a mix of charades, memory, singing and identifying favorite foods/colors/etc. For bonus points buy the corresponding book for a one-two punch!

Hungry Hungry Hippos - I don’t actually think I played this as a kid but I definitely played it with the kids I babysat and it was awesome. Now fast forward many (many) years and I decided it was time to add to our collection. It can be oddly pricey and hard to find in stock on Amazon so when I walked by the game aisle at Target and saw this I had to snatch it (in case you are interested in purchasing make sure to check out Target as it was about $10 cheaper than Amazon). The game board is fancier now and even folds up nicely to store away but the heart of the game hasn’t changed and it’s super easy and fun for kids of all ages.
